The challenge
Gamers already post everywhere: a clip on one app, a screenshot on another, a squad chat on a third. None of those places were built for them. Feeds bury a 30-second clutch under holiday photos, profiles have nowhere to say what you play, and discovery has no idea what a ranked grind is.
Romeo, the founder of Oaysis, wanted a platform where gaming is the default, not a hashtag. The brief was clear and demanding: the polish of a mainstream social app, the vocabulary of a gamer, and a first release solid enough to earn trust from a community that spots jank instantly.
Our approach
We started with the feed, because that is where a social app lives or dies. Every design decision was tested against one question: does this make it faster to share a moment from a game and find the people who care about it? Features that did not pass were cut from the first release.
We ran the build as a single team owning design, mobile and backend, with a weekly demo to Romeo on real devices. Scope moved when the demos taught us something, and it moved in the open, so there were no surprises about what would ship.
What we built
A cross-platform iOS and Android app with a media-first feed for clips and screenshots, game-tagged posts, profiles with a library of what you play, follows, likes, comments, saves and direct messages. Uploads are processed and served through a CDN so heavy game footage loads like a light photo.
Behind the app: a Node.js API on PostgreSQL and Redis, push notifications, and the unglamorous parts a real community needs from day one, including reporting, blocking, moderation queues and an admin dashboard for the Oaysis team.
What's inside
Media-first feed
Clips and screenshots at full quality, with game tags so a post finds its audience without a hashtag hunt.
Gamer profiles
A profile that says what you play, with a game library, platforms and a highlight reel instead of a generic bio.
Follows, likes, comments, DMs
The social loop gamers expect, tuned for reaction speed: optimistic updates, infinite scroll and instant replies.
Fast video everywhere
Uploads are transcoded and delivered via CDN, so a two-minute clip starts playing before the thumb has left the screen.
Safe by default
Reporting, blocking and a moderation queue shipped in the first release, not patched in after the first incident.
One codebase, two stores
React Native with native modules where it counted, shipped to iOS and Android from the same code.
The results
The Byte Whiz built Oaysis, our Instagram-style social platform for gamers, from the ground up. Sharp engineering, honest communication, and a team that genuinely cared about getting every detail right.
